Communication Channels

At the House of Education, I value open and effective communication between parents and educators. I believe that strong collaboration and regular updates are key to your child’s educational success. To ensure convenient and timely communication, I offer multiple channels for you to stay connected with me:

Email: Email communication allows for detailed discussions, sharing of important documents, and addressing any specific concerns. You can reach out to me at (houseofeducationsw  @gmail.com) for any academic or administrative inquiries. I strive to respond to emails promptly, typically within 24-48 hours during weekdays.

Text Messaging: For quick updates, reminders, or time-sensitive information, I utilize text messaging as an efficient communication tool. Please make sure to provide I with your preferred phone number to receive important notifications and reminders.

ClassDojo: I also utilize the ClassDojo platform, a secure and user-friendly communication app that enhances parent-teacher interaction. ClassDojo allows me to share classroom updates, announcements, photos, and even individual messages. It serves as a convenient hub for sharing information and staying connected throughout your child’s learning journey. You will receive an invitation to join my ClassDojo community, where you can engage in discussions, receive real-time updates, and celebrate your child’s achievements.

By utilizing these communication channels, I aim to establish a strong partnership with you, enabling us to work together in supporting your child’s educational growth. I encourage you to actively engage in these platforms, ask questions, share concerns, and celebrate your child’s milestones.

Please note that while these channels are accessible and convenient, I request that non-urgent inquiries or lengthy discussions be conducted through email to ensure a comprehensive and focused response.

Holiday Acknowledgement

At the House of Education, I recognize and respect the diversity of our student community, which includes families from various cultural backgrounds. As an organization that focuses on international students, I strive to create an environment that respects and appreciates different traditions and celebrations.

Throughout the year, I acknowledge and celebrate a wide range of holidays and cultural events to foster a sense of belonging and promote cultural understanding. However, it’s important to note that I do not observe or celebrate one specific holiday in order to maintain an inclusive atmosphere for all our students and families.

As I plan our club scheduling and activities, I take into consideration the major U.S. federal holidays, such as the 4th of July and Thanksgiving. During these holidays, my club sessions may be adjusted or rescheduled to allow students and families to enjoy the festivities and spend quality time together.

I encourage parents and students to share their cultural traditions and celebrations with me. By embracing diversity and learning from one another, I can create a rich and inclusive learning environment that celebrates the uniqueness of each individual.

Reading Levels – Overview

What exactly is a Lexile® score? It’s a measure of your child’s English language arts and reading abilities, helping to match them with books that are just right for their skill level. And yes, I do use these scores to help select the books for my clubs!

But here’s the thing: while Lexile® scores are super helpful, they’re not the only thing that matters when it comes to reading.  Every child is unique, and factors like interest, engagement, and comprehension play a huge role in their reading experience.

Take a look at some examples from our Magic Tree House books: “Buffalo Before Breakfast” has a Lexile® score of 380, while “Camp Time in California” sits at 430. Moving into our Merlin Missions, “Carnival at Candlelight” boasts a Lexile® of 590, whereas “Christmas in Camelot” comes in at 420. And don’t forget “Civil War on Sunday” with a Lexile® of 340 and “Dingoes at Dinnertime” at 310. As you can see in the chart below these titles covers 1st through mid year of third grade.

See how varied they are? That’s because reading isn’t just about hitting a certain number—it’s about diving into captivating stories, boosting confidence, and developing those all-important comprehension skills. So, while Lexile® scores give us a helpful starting point, they’re just one piece of the puzzle in our magical reading adventure!
