Why Fairytales? Fairytales have long been the portal to magical realms, where heroes embark on quests, dragons guard hidden treasures, and spells weave enchanting tales. In addition to understanding human behavior, fairytales offer a treasure trove of lessons that shape character and inspire creativity. From unraveling mysteries to weaving personal memoirs, and even venturing through time, my classes delve into various themes inspired by these timeless stories. Imagination and Storytelling: Develop a unique narrative voice and master the art of structuring compelling stories. Each one-hour session is filled with creative writing activities and engaging storytelling exercises, including:

  • Introduction and Theme Crafting (5 minutes): Children present a small craft or idea related to the weekly theme.
  • Guided Story Outline: Ms. Kyria leads students through the basics of story creation, using mentor texts as examples.
  • Musical Writing Sprint 1 (10 minutes): A timed writing exercise set to music to inspire creativity.
  • Sharing and Feedback: Students share their writing, exchange ideas, and receive encouragement.
  • Writing Sprint 2 (if time allows): Another round of writing to build on earlier work.

4. How long are the sessions?

Each session lasts for one hour. This includes both structured writing activities and time for sharing and feedback.

5. When are classes held?

The Enchanted Inkwell classes are held on Mondays and Thursdays at 7:30pm ET / 4:30pm PT. You can choose the day that works best for your schedule.

6. What materials does my child need?

All your child needs is:

  • Paper, a pencil, and an eraser (or a device for typing).
  • A device with internet access for the live virtual classes.
  • Their creativity and imagination!

7. Does my child need prior writing experience?

No previous writing experience is necessary! The class is designed to be accessible for all levels. Whether your child is a seasoned storyteller or new to writing, they will find a welcoming and inspiring environment.

8. What themes do the classes focus on?

Each session is inspired by timeless fairytales and magical themes. Students will explore different elements of storytelling, including character development, plot, and setting. While not guaranteed for every participant, the best stories from the program may be selected for this unique publishing opportunity. Google Doc access is required to do the editing with Miss Kyria.

15. Can parents observe the class?

Parents are welcome to observe, but the focus is on encouraging children to express their creativity independently in a fun, supportive environment.

16. What happens if my child doesn’t finish their story during class?

It’s perfectly normal for stories to be unfinished by the end of class. The goal is to spark ideas, create story outlines, and begin the writing process. Your child can continue developing their stories after class with the tools and inspiration they gain from each session.
