Hey friends!
Can you believe summer still has a whole month left? That’s like… seven naps, three sprinklers, and one thousand tail wags!
I’ve been sniffing around and I hear some of you are about to make new friends, and see your old ones again too. That reminds me of my story, The Friendship Mission. (Spoiler: I might’ve accidentally made friends with a cat… on purpose.)
Norman’s Friendship Tip: Want to make a new friend fast? Compliment their snack (don’t eat it for them, that only works in your fluffly like me). Works every time. Even if they are snacking on broccoli.
Parent Tip: Back-to-School Power Moves
Hey grownups, the countdown is on—backpacks, pencils, and a whole lot of pretending we’re ready is in full swing. So here are three quick wins to actually prep your kid without burning yourself out:
- Sleep Reset: Start pulling bedtime back by 15 minutes every few days. Trust me, zombie brains don’t ace math facts.
- Read Out Loud Together: Even big kids. Even if it’s cereal boxes. It sharpens fluency and wakes up comprehension.
- Practice Independence: Have them pack a bag, pick clothes, or make a snack solo. Autopilot mornings start now.
Bonus Move?
Add our Back to School Reboot to your prep list.
It’s three short sessions (Math Monday, Word Wednesday, Fact-Finding Friday), all at 5 PM ET, and it’s like sneaking in a warm-up lap before the big academic race.
Here’s the kicker:
Teachers often do mini assessments the first few weeks to sort kids into small groups. If your child’s brain is warmed up, they’re more likely to land in a group that challenges them—instead of getting stuck reviewing what they forgot over summer.
No worksheets. No extra driving.
Just a head start they’ll feel confident about—and you’ll feel damn smart for giving.

Pinned Insight: Why Games Win at Learning
Let’s be real: Worksheets = groans.
Games = grins, competition, and actual learning that sticks.
When kids play, their brains relax, and that’s when they retain. Word games like Quiddler sneak in spelling, vocabulary, pattern recognition, and even strategy, without anyone begging for a snack break after five minutes.
Want them to learn while they think they’re winning?
Game. Night. Magic.
🃏 One of my all-time favorite tutoring tools:
Quiddler Card Game – Ages 8+
✅ Word-building
✅ Fast rounds
✅ Great for solo or group
✅ Fits in a purse, glove box, or backpack
As an Amazon Associate, I earn some change from qualifying purchases. But I only share what I’ve used and loved, this game is a legit win.
It’s a literacy workout disguised as fun, and I’ve watched kids light up because of it, and teens ask for “that card game we make words with”.
